• DR. JAMES ZACHARIAH, MS, FAIS, FMAS, MDiv. graduated in medicine from ANDHRA MEDICAL COLLEGE , Visakhapatnam in 1984 and completed his internship in 1985 June.
  • He trained under internationally famous surgeons at CHRISTIAN MEDICAL COLLEGE Vellore and Ludhiana in various sub-specialties of Surgery . The training in these institutes being rigorous, the American ‘pyramidal pattern’ residency program has helped him to get a good grasp of an all round Surgical Specialist. It also helped him to excel in the pre and post-operative care of the critically ill surgical patient.
  • In addition to his General Surgery training he worked as a Registrar in the Departments of Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Hand Surgery, Urology and CT Surgery in CMC. He also worked as a Research Officer in Vascular Surgery.
  • He taught General Surgery as a faculty (Lecturer) of the Christian Medical College Ludhiana from 1992 to 1995 for both undergraduate and post graduate programs.
  • Though he was exposed to Laparoscopic surgery at CMC, he underwent training in KOVAI MEDICAL CENTRE in Coimbatore and Certification in Laparoscopic Surgery after fulfilling all the requirements (and the qualifying written and viva voce examination) of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India in 2007 AMASICON and was awarded the fellowship FMAS.
  • He is a Fellow and Life member of the Association of Surgeon of India.- FAIS.
  • He also underwent theological education for three and a half years and earned the Master of Divinity ( MDiv) degree.
  • He has authored a book following research on the history of medical care in India and published it in 2004 – “HEALING INDIA”.
  • He was awarded “Man of the Year 2003” by the American Biographical Institute based on his work and contribution in surgical care. In the rural areas.
  • He has a keen interest in teaching Surgery and still does so to junior doctors and medical students whenever possible.
  • Dr. Zachariah has along with his wife Dr. Mary founded the non-profit organization MISSION RAPHAH with a concern to serve the rural community and conducts free medical camps. He also helps in the surgical care of patients in a few Mission Hospitals.
